Backup your Computer Online: The Quickest Method to Safe Keep your Files
Backing up files is something we all know we should do, but it’s one of those things that is so easy to procrastinate on. That is until the worst happens and you lose everything.
From my experience besides yesterday the next best time to start backing up your data online is right now.
Getting Started
Backing up your computer online is the least painful way of ensuring your important files are saved some where else besides your hard drive. There isn’t a requirement for any DVD’s, USB drives, or external hard drives. All of your important files and folders are kept securely on an online storage server for a small monthly fee until you might need to access it because of data loss.
To get started visit Mozy Home backup, their service offers a free trial account you can use to get things started. After signing up you’ll need to download the small application used to select your files for backup and upload them to the secure backup server location online.
What do you backup?
By default most online backup programs want to backup your My Documents folder.Of course this is probably the most logical place to start, you may also want to add in a backup of your email folders and addresses, as well as any important system settings files.
If you’ve ever bought any software and had to download it and haven’t made a copy also add in those files.
Is the process complete?
After you’ve selected which files to backup you just tell Mozy to begin the initial backup and you’re all done. All Done! The first backup will be the longest, expect it to take some time but you don’t need to sit there and watch it go.
Of course the good news is that once the initial backup is complete that’s it. Those files won’t need to be uploaded again unless their updated or modified in some way.In the future the only files and folders that will be uploaded will be either files that you modify, new files created in folders selected for backup, or new folders added to areas selected for backup.
